Mexican Consulate / Harvard Exit | SHW
Adaptive reuse project transforming the historic Harvard Exit Theater into the Mexican Consulate. This century-old building required full seismic, structural, and systems upgrades. The challenge was performing upgrades and also meeting the strict historic preservation requirements. We systematically deconstructed the interior, cataloging trim, chair rail, and molding. Unreinforced masonry was secured. A new roof was constructed and strapped to the wall and floor diaphragms below, seismic bracing was hidden in interior walls when possible. We installed an elevator that operates throughout the four floors. Developer: Eagle Rock Ventures. Photos: Jill Hardy & Ryan Warner
